WasteSafe 2009 – the International Conference on Solid Waste Management was organized in 9-10 November 2009 at Khulna, Bangladesh to unfold the research findings of young researchers from home and abroad as conducting research in the academic and research institutes and works professionally at various levels and positions. This conference was arranged as an important component of a research project entitled as “Safe and Sustainable Management of Municipal Solid Waste in Bangladesh through the Practical Application of WasteSafe Proposal – WasteSafe II” under EU-Asia Pro Eco II Programme co-financed by the European Commission for three years (2007-2009). Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Bangladesh was the Lead of this project while partners of this consortium were Khulna City Corporation, Bangladesh; Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany; Bauhaus International Research & Education Centre, Germany & Lublin University of Technology (LUT), Poland. The field study countries are Bangladesh and Thailand. The success of WasteSafe 2009, encouraged the organizer to continue such activities in Bangladesh in every odd year in a particular period beyond the project period. To materialize such attempt, the next WasteSafe conferences i.e. WastrSafe 2011 to WasteSafe 2025 were held in the year 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025. The conferences created a hub of knowledge by encouraging young reaserchers in the field of waste management. It also created a platform while the new reserchers can come in close contact with the world renowned scientists, reserchers, professionals and academicians to exchange views, ideas and research findings. It is realized that the documents and images related to these conferences might be a great treasure and relevant documents for the interested reserchers, professionals and policy makers around the world.
